Ogii Lake

Located in Ogii Nuur Soum, Arkhangai Province, Ogii Lake is one of the most famous freshwater lakes in central Mongolia and a well-developed tourism destination with relatively strong infrastructure. It is also internationally recognized as a wetland of global importance and is listed under the Ramsar Convention. The lake lies northeast of Ogii Nuur Soum, about 100 km from Tsetserleg city and approximately 341 km from Ulaanbaatar.
Ogii Lake covers an area of about 25 square kilometers, with a length of 7 km and a width of 5 km. It reaches a maximum depth of around 15 meters and sits at an elevation of 1,337 meters above sea level. It is part of the Arctic Ocean drainage basin, making it a significant freshwater ecosystem in Mongolia.
Hydrologically, the lake is fed from the west by waters originating from the Old Orkhon River, and it drains northwest through the Khooloi River, which eventually flows into the Orkhon River. The lake typically remains frozen from November to May each year.

Photography
Sunset over Ogii Lake is especially stunning, with vibrant reflections across the water surface. The lake is also an excellent location for photographing birds, especially with a telephoto lens or binoculars.
Activities
Fishing is possible with proper permits, and boats from nearby tourist camps can be used to access deeper parts of the lake.
Environmental Care
Visitors are strongly encouraged to protect the lake’s fragile ecosystem by avoiding littering and strictly prohibiting vehicle washing in or near the water.
