About Tov
Location and Geography
Tov Province is located in the central-eastern part of
Mongolia, covering an area of 74,042.37 km². It surrounds the national capital,
Ulaanbaatar, and shares borders with six provinces: Khentii, Govisümber,
Dundgovi, Övörkhangai, Bulgan, and Selenge.
Population and Culture
After Mongolia’s independence, in October 1923, the area was
named “Bogd Khan Mountain Province.” The administrative center was established
in Ovordoloood in Lün soum of present-day Töv Province, which is considered the
historical origin of the province’s establishment.
Natural Attractions
Töv Province lies at an average elevation of 1,200–1,500
meters above sea level and features mountainous landscapes such as the Khentii
Range, Zaamar Range, Zorгол Khairkhan, and Khustai Range. Prominent peaks
include Asralt Khairkhan (2,800 m), Bogd Khan Mountain, and Batkhaan Mountain.
About 16.4% of the territory is covered by forests, while
36.5% consists of steppe regions. Geographically, the province belongs to the
Khangai, Khentii mountainous zones and the Eastern Mongolian steppe region. The
northern mountainous valleys have fertile brown soils suitable for agriculture,
while the southern areas consist of rolling hills and steppe landscapes.
