About Dornogovi
Location and Geography
Dornogovi Province is located in the northwestern part of
the province, about 450 km from Ulaanbaatar and 98 km from the provincial
center, in a place called Ölziit. It borders its own soums of Zuunbayan,
Khuvsgul, and Mandakh to the southeast and west, and also shares borders with
Öndörshil of Dundgovi Province, as well as Airag, Altanshiree, and Sainshand
soums of Dornogovi Province in the north, northeast, and east.
Population and Culture
The region is influenced by Buddhist culture and the
traditional nomadic lifestyle of the Gobi people.
Natural Attractions
The area is home to rare and endangered species listed in
the Red Book, including argali sheep, ibex, khulan (wild horse), and
black-tailed gazelles. The northern part of the territory is characterized by
unique geological formations dominated by white stone (fat stone), and features
33 identical white mounds, which represent a distinctive and rare natural
landscape of the region.
