Located on the banks of the Onon River in Binder Soum, Khentii Province, the Great Khurultai Complex is a major historical and cultural tourism destination that combines Mongolia's rich statehood traditions with contemporary architectural design. The complex commemorates one of the most significant events in Mongolian history—the founding of the Great Mongol Empire—and serves as a symbol of national unity and heritage.
The complex was established to honor the historic Great Khuruldai of 1206, when Genghis Khan united the nomadic tribes under a single state and proclaimed the establishment of the Great Mongol Empire. This historic assembly not only transformed the destiny of the Mongolian people but also reshaped the course of world history through the rise of one of the largest empires ever created.
Historical research has identified the site of the Great Khuruldai near Tsagaan Lake, south of present-day Binder Soum, close to the headwaters of the Onon River. The Great Khuruldai Palace Complex has been designed across an area of 25 hectares at the confluence of the Onon and Khurkh Rivers, blending harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. Its architectural design evokes the grandeur of an ancient fortified city while preserving the area's natural beauty and geographical character.
