About Bayan-Ulgii
Location and Geography
Located in the westernmost part of Mongolia, among the high peaks of the Altai Mountains. It shares borders with Russia and China, and most of its territory lies at an elevation of over 1,600 meters above sea level.
Population and Culture
It is the only province in Mongolia where the Kazakh ethnic group forms the majority of the population. Most residents speak the Kazakh language and practice Islamic traditions. The province is also home to Uriankhai and Tuvan ethnic groups, creating a rich and diverse cultural environment.
Natural Attractions
The province is home to Mongolia’s highest point, the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain range, including Khüiten Peak (4,374 meters). It is also famous for its unique natural landscapes such as the Potanin Glacier, Tolbo Lake, Khoton and Khurgan Lakes, and the Baga Turgen Waterfall.
